Irina Prieto Botella is a Barcelona-born composer, pianist, and vocalist (b. 1987). Trained in classical piano from a young age, she quickly found in composition a space of creative freedom—one that contrasted with the rigidity of conservatory teaching. Between the ages of 6 and 14, she won her school’s composition prize every year, honing her melodic instinct and taste for simplicity.

She started composing music as a child for her father’s home-made—and often experimental—films, an early encounter with moving images that sparked her passion for cinematic storytelling through sound. At age 10, she also lent her voice to a popular baby product commercial in Spain—an unexpected experience that introduced her to the studio world and vocal performance.

While continuing her classical training, she played keyboards in ska and reggae bands and sang in various rock, pop, reggae, and jazz groups. She’s the lead vocalist of Chambre Claire, with whom she released an album in 2018, and has recorded backing vocals for rap artists like Kery James and Naim L’1consolable.

After studying musicology and composition at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya, she moved to Paris to specialize in music for screen. Over time, her musical style has expanded to include a wide range of influences—from electroacoustic music and jazz to chanson and traditional folk.

She has since composed scores for numerous fiction films, documentaries, and experimental projects. Her work also spans live performance, sound installations, and digital media—always with a focus on musical dramaturgy, attentive listening, and the relationship between sound, space, and movement.
