Togo - Kabiyé Orchestras and Lithophones
Rhythm is paramount to the Kabiyé of Northern Togo. This recording presents their orchestras (soo) of percussive instruments, flutes, whistles and expressive trumpets, along with rare pichanchalassi lithophones ("the sound of stones") - an instrument played for entertainment, and also used for initiation rites of young boys.
