Le premier principe du service de dévotion est de chanter le maha-mantra (maha signifie "grand"; mantra signifie "un son qui libère le mental de l'ignorance").
Ce chant est une prière adressée à Krishna qui signifie " O Energie du Seigneur (Hare), O Infiniment fascinant (Krishna), O Puissance de félicité (Rama), s'il vous plaît engagez-moi dans Votre service."
